You guys probably heard of chipset when buying a motherboard. These chipset models numbers are used for naming motherboard's(ex A320 motherboard from AMD,H310 from INTEL).so what is a chipset let us explain☺.

Chipset is actually a communication hub between your processor and other peripherals like RAM, Storage devices, network cards, etc. It also determines which generation of CPU, which generations of peripherals it supports.

In olden days each peripheral had their own chips which made the motherboard bulky. Then it was shortened into 2 chipsets. They are Northbridge and Southbridge

NORTHBRIDGE

Northbridge is connected directly into the CPU which handles performance-sensitive peripherals like RAM, PCIe slots, etc.

SOUTHBRIDGE

Southbridge is connected to Northbridge and act as a communication hub between less performance-sensitive components like USB ports, SATA ports, Network cards, etc

In modern computers, the Northbridge is built into CPU which facilitates high speed and efficient data transfer between RAM, PCIe slots, etc.

This technology was introduced by AMD in 2003. and AMD calls it FCH(Fusion controller hub. Intel introduced this technology in 2008 and called it PCH(Platform controller hub).

The latest chipset from AMD are A320, B450, X570
The latest chipset from INTEL are H310, B360, B365, Z390
